Derekp's Pond Build Thread...

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Use more rocks to hide the liner and it will look pretty sweet. How clear is it now? Can you actually see the bottom at all?

We are about to buy a pallet of large oklahoma stone to replace the small rocks on the liner. Those rocks are just leftover from when we built the pool. Also my equipment should be here in the next few days so it will really start to clear up. I have a pump, uv sterilizer, pond skimmer, and hoses coming so I can properly hook up the bog filter.

Make sure to update along the way. Looking great so far.

I have a question guys. I have a little red eared slider turtle that is just smaller than the size of my fist. I had him in with my koi and goldfish when they were in the 300 gallon and he was just mean to them. He would try and bite on even the koi that were over 12 inches. Do y'all think he would be okay in the pond with them since it is a much larger body of water? Or should I just keep him in the 125 gallon and not try it?

That depends, how expensive were your koi?

I wouldn't do it.

What I actually think Im gonna do for a little while is put him in the bog filter. I can put a screen over where the water is coming out and a rock in the middle for him to bask. The whole thing is about 8 inches deep and it has a lip from the wood all the way around so he cant get out. That way I can free up my 125 gallon and get him outside.

Sounds pretty cool actually. You would have to make sure he got a lot of sun though. If the lip blocks to much sun it may not work.
