why not :confused::confused: once the nitrates are gone you either need to add or subtract minerals and trace elements

whats missing ???

ps welcome to mfk !!

.

Thanks for the welcoming. However, as far as adding trace elements, you would have to continually be adding these trace elements and test your water at all times to make sure you have it balanced. Keep in mind, the reason for the "closed system" is to take away the hassel of water changes. By having to constantly monitor, test, and add things to your water you are only creating a new job. So, it would just be pointless. The idea behind closed system filtration is to already be replacing these trace elements without having to add any yourself. Think of it this way, I don't condition the stream in my backyard, yet it seems to support aquatic life.

ok.... it might add to the testing you do already ......... or you could use tiny water changes to do this task.

Great system for sure! However, you still need do water change regularly! at least half process of the water change: add water in due to the big Evaporation

Fun to read the whole thing.

Thanks.

Did you read the whole thread:confused:
Johnptc hit the nail on the head with #109, hence why I don't post(just read) threads that are out of my reach,
Have you seen John's tank?
The bioball fountain is a work of art not a filter not to mention the new stuff he did recently with the nitrate filter. Sit back enjoy.. held back at this point

I agree. You could use tiny water changes, but then it wouldn't be a closed system. You would be continually introducing new water. And that is the method I prefer. Much like Fish Hatcheries. They constantly use new, fresh water from local streams. This is what I plan on doing with my next aquarium. It's been done before, and I think it's the best idea as far as eliminating water changes. It's like I always say, "If you don't want to do it, automate it."

It is possible to make a very cheap efficient "Bakki shower " style system from a set of plastic storage draws available from any hardware shop, best media to use is Biohome sintered glass. It is tried tested and works, how do I know.I own the company that manufactures Biohome...............

LOL. Should I bother?

You own the company? Isn't it a Japanese company? if you are Japanese, I must compliment you on your English. I also hate to say it, but if you are indeed the owner (with 1 post at MFK, your first and only post being to make this claim, which is a tad fishy) that, if anything disqualifies you from being able to make unbiased (read "believable") statements about the media. There is plenty of other testimony to it's efficacy, making lofty statements like "how do I know? I own the company" won't earn you much credibility.

I make miracle cream that makes your privates grow. It works, trust me, I know - I make the stuff.

I am not Japanese, good English and yes I really do own the manufacturing company,well,50%o of it anyway..Our product has made a big impact in the far east and been put under many trials and tests ,it does work and it is very frustrating to sit back and read some of the opinions fom people who know nothing of it but are quick to judge. My expertise lies in Ceramics not fish,we were asked to produce a media to do a specific job unlike all the other products out there that have been adapted to aquatic use .Any questions with regard to Biohome ,just ask

I think the consensus already is that the media works. The whole discussion is centered around whether it really does remove nitrates and how it does so. That and coming up with other more effective nitrate removal processes. My point is though, that even if I decide to trust that you really do own the company, that makes anything you say about the media advertizing. That means that if you tell me it works, it doesn't mean anything because you're a biased party. someone who HAS used it and testifies that it's effective, but has nothing to gain by saying so, is actually someone whose testimony matters. That's all.

Correct I am a biased party, anything I say about the media would be advertising which is why if you notice I havent said anything or made any claims about it, It is what other people say that counts and there are many of them out there. I in my simple ignorance of how these things work I thought it may be beneficial if anyone had a question about Biohome I may be the person to ask...the mistrust I dont understand ?
