determining needed fly line weight?

hi, i am looking to getting some new fly line for my rod, and dont know what weight of line to get. i was looking around on cabelas.com, but i didnt know what weight to get. the rod is an 8 foot 3 piece, mainly using for dry flies and poppers.

The line weight to properly load the rod should be written just past the handle. You should purchase the line weight recommended or one weight heavier.

It should say what weight on the rod just forward of the handle. My guess would be 5-6 weight (wt), but that is really a shot in dark.

your actually correct. i checked a few days ago, it says 5 or 6. just gotta go to the store and find some now.
 
a 5-6 weight is great for casting poppers and bugs for line i would go with floating weight forward and a 6lb tippet.

whats the tippet for?
 
in fly line you have 3 to 4 parts to your line starting at the bare reel you have
1st backing which is some sort of nylon braid
then you have your main line (floating or sinking)
then you have your tippet which is basically fishing line (which i use 6lb for poppers)
there are many types of tippets
