so I'm looking for a really reliable detritus eater for my 29 bio cube reef that isn't going to add much to the bio load. I think a brittle star is a good way to go, but I was wondering if there was something out there I hadn't thought of yet.
Hmm...well...the brittle star will eat detritus, and poop it out into finer particles, but just to clarify you will need to find a way to remove it from the tank altogether.
I've got a little protien skimmer in it, but it's one of the bio cube skimmers... not super effective at any rate, but just breaking it down will help keep it in the water column
Brittle stars can go anywhere...and will do a good job of that.
Try not to make your rock work so that there are many dead spots for detritus to accumulate in, and if there have to be spots like this, try and at least make them so you can get back there and get some out. Hard to do, but important for long term maintenance of the tank.
cerith snails, nerite snails and peppermint shimp as well. do not mix cerith snails and hermit crabs. Or you will have a bunch of fat hermit crabs wearing cerith snail shells.
