What do you do to keep crud out of your sump? I have cleaned it out of course but not sure how it all gets down there.

If you have good prefilters like socks, the mulm you get is most likely comprised of things that get through it like algae spores, etc. but also dead bacteria. No matter how well you prefilter, the bio will still occasionally need a light swishing.

I use 25 micron filter socks. My sump stays pretty much spotless :)

I just use the prefilter sponge.

Salt or fresh? Salt water detritus accumulates much differently than fresh water. I never had a spot of anything in my sump when this was set up as freshwater.

Ah sorry! Didn't even realize this was in the SW section :)

If you are noticing an accumulation (my filter sock thingy broke...didnt make my baffles thick enough) you will need to use a powerhead to vacuum it out once a month or so. Just put it into part of your water change.

I have a powerhead in the refugium portion but it accumulates on the side that water comes in. I just vaccum it every other water change but I was seeing if there was a way to eliminate it from getting in there to save the work.

ps the odyssea protein skimmer is holding up well and doing a wonderful job. Ill have to get a video of the tank up soon.

Glad to hear it man! Also looking forward to seeing this tank, and how your frags are doing!

If you have any issues, and want to do another order through me, Ill throw you an additional freebie!

Filter socks work well, my brother (thisissimple) swears by them. The only thing is that like anything else that traps detritus, they are nitrate factories. This means you need at least three so that you can switch them out every couple days and wash two at a time.
