devils breeding high ph?

what is the highest known ph that red devils/ midas have been bred in?



just curious because my tap water comes out at ridiculous levels and the only time i adjust my ph is when i add new fish in a tank i keep to adjust the ph on so the fish adjust slowly to my high ph. im not positive on an exact number (my test strips max at 8.4) all my fish have thrived so i just go with the flow. i never used to worry about my ph, i just did water changes and my fish were all fine. since the pond and all my fish were already established i have decided to not start screwing with my ph on the pond as it will probably cause more of a problem than it would be good for. was just kind of wondering because i had a pair of red devils spawn, and i noticed the fry yesterday when i had the water level low doing a 50% wc. they are still swimming in a cloud around the parents and doing good. parents have been able to keep all the other fish out of there 1/3 of the pond so far. just kind of wondering if i was the first to have them spawn with ph sooooo high.
 
damn did i catch the plague and not know about it? nobody can comment or give an opinion? thats just not like you guys. also i found out from another in the hobby that our city water ph is 8.7
 
RD's are high pH fish like a lot of CA's, 8.7 doesn't sound extreme at all for them.
 
I have a book at home that lists pH breeding numbers. I think the 8s is really high... If I remember right its around high 7s
 
Collection data for Amphilophus labiatus from both Lake Nicaragua and Lake Managua was pH 8.5 ... so 8.7 isn't bad.

so in the wild they live about 8.5 where all the info sites you get if you google tell you to keep them 6.5-7.5, just goes to show how much some of those sites know. i really didnt think i would have them spawning just because of my ph. i knew they should live fine, just didnt think the conditions were quite good enough to spawn.

I think the general confusion comes in with the idea that SA cichlids like more acidic water, say 6-6.5 or so, and the CA got lumped in with that along the way.
 
now i think my jags are about to spawn. they paired off and claimed an upside down 5 gallon bucket with a hole cut in the side when i first set up the pond, but i have never seen any fry swimming out of the bucket, never picked it up to check though either. but one of them looks so fat its about to pop. possibly about to lay eggs.
