I heard Circuit City filed for chap. 11 too...
yup saw that. the store in my town is one of the stores theyre closing. they started liquidating since last week. but the sales suck. something like only 5% off for computers. pfff

It's no wonder they're going belly-up. I had an overnight shipment coming from Columbus, OH to Memphis, TN to my house in MS. Instead, DHL shipped it from Columbus, OH to Detroit, MI to Salt Lake City, UT, to San Jose, CA, to Waco, TX. The live package was lost (and still is lost) in Waco over a year ago. Not only did they go way over the shipping from Columbus to Memphis, they had to reimburse me for the cost of the overnight guaranteed delivery. You can't do that too many times and not expect to see red on the bottom line.

They had stiff competition. When I goto ship I don't even consider DHL because I can/have been getting everything done via USPS/Fedex/UPS. Doubt many other people do either. Not saying it had nothing to do with the economy, but I think the underlying factor was they weren't doing well to begin with.

Agreed. I worked closely with DHL sales reps for my company for a couple years and their customer service was always abysmal. They went through employees so fast I would never get a chance to maintain a good repoir with any 1 rep. We also had many billing issues i.e. the wrong companies getting billed thousands of dollars in shipping charges because of simple clerical errors. Its too bad so many people are losing their jobs but honestly the company's current situation does not suprise me.

had a similier problem 3x with them... fedx and ups were not much better....

Ive got a feeling in a few years my company will be cutting back. 60% of our business was pretty much given to us by W, I doubt O will want that still... :(

I graduate in May, I need a job then. The current economy has me leaning towards the largest employer in the nation: The gov't. A gov't job is looking mighty fine right about now...

No kidding, the higher paid the better. Not to mention benefits and pension are decent enough.

We haven't reached the rock bottom yet. :( They are just going down, one after another.

sorry to see DHL went under, while they were far from perfect, they were the cheapest option. esp when you shipped something ground. with that said, i expect fed-ex and UPS to start raising prices. *sigh*

btw international shipping is out of hand...... on avg, i've gotten quotes with 40% increases in S&H alone..

DHL is continuing their international shipping. Maybe now that they are focusing on that they will be able to provide some competetive international transit charges.
