Diamond Sturgeons

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Never knew they could be kept inside in warmer tanks. If I was a braver man I'd bring my sturgeon inside into my tank so I could see more of him! How long have you had that sturgeon in a tank for? what kinda heat is the tank kept at? Very interesting in a community tank :)

Slightly off topic, but has anybody kept/seen any albino sturgeons/sterlets? I've seen one at LFS, was thinking of buying it if it's still there when the weathers warm enough to introduce new fish to my pond. Not sure if there rare or common? but it looked kinda cool.

Sturgeon can definitely tolerate extreme cold temps, the rivers up here get 3' of ice on them and the sturgeon have been living in them alot longer than we have been here so a NY pond should be fine.

I am not sure how fast domesticaly raised sturgeon grow but I know our wild sturgeon take about 50yrs to get 40" (legal to keep) and the 8 footers that someone mentioned are few and far between because they take hundreds of years to get that big. I seriously doubt anyone on here plans on keeping one long enough to get that big.

Mines gone from 3-4" to 10" in two months lol. His growth has slowed along with the rise in temperature.
