diamond

I agree the shovelnose are not half as cool as the diamond. What should I expect to pay for a diamond or a sterlet?

My pond is going to be 4' deep. You think it will stay in the low 70's in the hot months?

yeah i think you will be fine at 4' deep
your only issue will be keeping high O2 levels in the winter with the surface freezing, as well as feeding in the winter time (which is why mine is still indoors for the winter)

sterlets usually run $40-50 at 3-4"
diamonds are almost impossible to find, so any price is a good one if you want them. i think i paid $30-40 at 1.5", plus same day shipping from florida to ohio which wasnt cheap

Very cool looking diamond Justin. They have a great prehistoric look to them.

jakessvx1 -- i have no idea about your local stores (mine carry white's and sterlets occasionally), but i have seen them pop up on aquabid and liveaquaria from time to time

knh -- thanks, glad you could get the videos working !!

they are pretty hard to find
i got this one from a guy in florida probably 2 years ago. hes the only person ive seen with diamonds in the last 5 years. i believe they are restricted on import
and all sturgeon seem to be seasonal so they may not be available until next spring.
ive found white's from time to time over the past few years, but they like even colder temps and grow quicker and larger

tips-
keep it cold, these idiots keeping them in tropical temps are killing or torturing their fish, reguardless of what everyone else on here keeps saying
dont overfeed them! yes they will get big, but they shouldnt get super big super fast. water quality is much more important. less food = less water issues
aerate aerate aerate! i always run a big pump to an air stone, as well as filters aggitating the surface like crazy
dont keep anything in the tank for them to get caught on like decor or filter intakes. they cannot swim backwords, so they can wedge themselves into spaces, get stuck and die :(
dont worry about the "they need a circular tank" --- ive had this guy in a 40g to start him eating well, in a 100g stock tank, and a 180g. the round stock tank to the 180 didnt make a difference. he doesnt run into the glass much, and swims slowly, so an occasional bump is no big deal. he knows where the glass is and where the corners are as u can see in the videos.

Very nice diamond you got there!

My cousin has 3 of them and purchased them from the same guy in FL. He raised them indoors then released them into his pond. The largest is almost 30". His pond temps range from 48 in the winter to 78 in the summer.
