Does anyone have any information regarding how to change the impeller shaft seal on a interspace diatom XL filter? Cant seem to get the plastic housing off to get at the impeller.

Sorry! I can't find anything telling you how to take the thing apart. It tells you how to do the maintanance on it but not how to remove the cover. The website shows a diagram of the filter if that will help. I doubt it, but here it is anyway.

On mine, the seal is packed with grease or some other lubricant

Place a screwdriver in the air vent holes to prevent the cooling fan from rotating.....then turn the impeller counter clock wise with a pair of needle nose pliers....the impeller will unscrew off and then you could slide the plastic housing off and access the seal.

Someone else told me this but at the risk of sounding stupid I cant see any fan through the vents? I thought maybe the XL models was diffierent.
Appreciate your help guys.

Found it. For future reference in order to lock up the fan stiick a small srewdriver up into round aluminum hole at the very top of the motor. Turn the impeller clock wise to loosen. Thank you everyone for your help. Now onto changing the P 16 impeller shaft seal.

To remove the impeller and gain access to the seal you will need to remove the molded black plastic ring over the impeller. It looks like a piece of the housing but is not. Stick your finger in the impeller area and wiggle the plastic peice out. Trust me it does come out.
When installing the new P16 seal you will need permatex gasket sealer. You will need to pack the seal with grease. I have updated the thread since there seems to be limited information out there how to complete the replacement. Good Luck
