I hated fish until I saw bala sharks, now I like a large range of fish. has this happend to anyone else? If so what happend to change your mind.

my boyfriend hated my fish when we started dating. but, he got into reading the equipment info and about fish, and saw it as the actual hobby rather than just a pet.

he likes the fact that they aren't emotionally needy like a jumpy dog lol

It was the other way around for me.

I got my first tank at age 5. By the time I was a teenager, I was getting rid of furniture in my bedroom to make more tank space.

When I got into my thirties I made the mistake of trying to turn my hobby into a side job. I got into breeding a fish that I was ambivilant about (angelfish) and it burned me out on fish for a few years.

I'm getting back into it now, but it has taken on a whole new dimension now that my kids are old enough to get into it with me.

i have always liked fish keeping. my ctenopomas were absolutely adorable when i got them at two inches...very pretty and exotic. the colors faded and the snout and eyes seem to take up most of the fish, now. not so 'cute' anymore. i was annoyed ...they are secretive and sly, not friendly at all. they also have that 'wild ' feral look, a look about the eyes and demeanor i see in the sunfish i catch in our lakes.which makes them look a bit dangerous...my children are actually afraid of them.
BUT, they are tough little guys, still exotic and unusual, and after outbreaks of ick and nitrite spikes, they are still thriving in my tanks. I LOVE THEM.

I am much more of a fuzzy person. My true love is rabbits. However my fiancee is deathly allergic to anything fuzzy. About a year ago he says what about fish? So we got our 55 gal with my wolf pack (back when i thought goldfish only lived about 6 months haha how little i knew then!) Then shortly followed by our 10 gal pair of mating bettas (complete with freak out when she was gravid for about a month and didnt drop her eggs), then came the 125, now i have plans for both an indoor and an outdoor koi pond, a 500 gal salt water, a baby 8 gal salt water and plans to do a catfish tank. And I would love to do a nice tank with monster angels. Yeah. Im a fish convert. If only i could combine rabbits and fish.....fuzzy plecos? Goldfish with bunny tails? hmmmm

My parents got me a betta as my fist pet at age 2. At around age 5, my parents got me this crayola crayon tank that I kept comets in for a year or two. At age 8, I bought my first real aquarium (10 gallon) with my own money. I upgraded to a 29 gallon when I did an aquarium project for 4H a couple years later, then I set up my first attempt at a planted tank another year after that in the same 29, then I got a turtle and moved over to herps for a few years. Then, freshman year of high school, a coworker of my mom gave me a 55, 29, 2 20s, a 10, and a 5.5 for free. I've kept fish ever since. Now, it's basically an addiction and I plan on making it a career to some point. I'm currently majoring in field biology to study fish for basically the rest of my life lol

I never hated them, but couldn't care less about them. Until I stayed at a buddys house that had some and fell asleep zoning out in front of his tanks. That taught me the relaxing qualities of fish staring.
