did anyone growth out an rtc x marmoratus?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Sounded a bit odd lol, they were made by means of artificial breeding right? where you remove eggs and sperm and artificially fertilise them, is that correct?

yup, man made hybrids...most likely from killing the 2 parents and harvesting their sperm/eggs. Viable as in not stable aswell which is y most dropped dead pretty quickly.. I think Necro kept his alive the longest. ive seen pics of a cple over seas a few years ago but they seem to absent all together now. Bring me back 10yrs in the hobby any day i agree haha :)

If we had a Sensei in the Catfish section, that'd be Necrocanis for sure and without doubt. That guy took his hobby seriously, as seriously as say Oddball and Wes do.

I agree with what Wednesday has said on the hybrid. There were maybe a dozen or two imported about 10-12 years ago that could be seen on MFK but eventually only several survived into sub-adulthood - excluding obvious accidents, they appeared to kick the bucket for an unknown reason. That coupled with the fact that they have not gone anywhere in the farming business says that they are likely not a strong fish, not a viable candidate for farming or hobby fish-keeping.

I must note though that to me it appears that there have been several different hybrids of this kind:

Leiarius marmoratus x RTC
and perhaps vice versa - RTC x L. marmoratus
Leiarius pictus x RTC
and perhaps vice versa too RTC x L. pictus

I recall that not too long ago, within 2-3 years, an MFK-er got a couple of these. I forgot who. There is a thread and pics. It's a seasoned member but who doesn't post too often.

EDIT: so you've found it again, Justin! https://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/threads/my-cats-sept-2013.555731/ You just can't let go, can yah? Yes, I wanted to say Weirdfishlover but wasn't sure. Now I am. And it's in Asia.

I was surprised that someone on SA fish farms is still experimenting with these because there'd be no other way we'd ever see them, I guess.

Same appears to go for Oxydoras x RTC and paroon x RTC - not viable.

Only two are known to be viable TSNxRTC and TSNx L. marmoratus. AFAIK.
