o and here is the aftermath of the larger pb i got them out before the smaller one meet the same fate

Ouch!
I think it'll be fine. My Fla Gar had a miscellaneous cichlid just like that. Two weeks later, there is barely a scar, and the little cichlid still hasn't learned!

cichla shouldnt be with any gar esp a gator. This is just gonna keep happening. Gators shouldnt really be with anything except another gator.

A few people in this thread need to take some English classes. Regardless of that I have to say it's pretty obvious what the problem is. You're putting a 22 inch predator with a 6 inch fish that looks like dinner. What did you expect? Gator gars can be totally peaceful or absolutely insane. Depends on the fish. But no matter what they are predators. Predators eat smaller fish.

:iagree:

And once he tasted bass (and love it), he is going for the one with more meat, in that case, your 10"

all i was saying is i saw what this fish grow up with and what was in his tank i dident grow him this big i adopted him. the tank mates he had for most of his life were the same size as the small bass. that is y i found it so strange.

what about other Gars like a Florida Gar?
i just purchashed a juvi Florida. but it's in a grow-out tank at the moment.
i was planning to move it to the monster tank, when it's big enough to not be swallowed by the Alligator Tank.
is this a bad idea?

Usually the main thing is to just make sure that the gar can't fit its tankmates in its mouth, but the situation is much more complex than that because it's an alligator gar. Generally, the main problem with housing a peacock bass with a gar is the fact that the peacock bass usually is the more aggressive of the two and will overly stress the gar.

florida might work but it is still suggested that you do not keep gar with any cichla

@Lepisosteus platyrhincus

whew thanks, that's a relief.

after i posted my question earlier, i went for a nap.
and i had a nightmare about my alligator gar eating everything up, and then committing suicide by eating himself as well, it was a nasty dream.
