Did I get what I was supposed to be getting?

I posted some pix in the photo lounge of my new fish, most of which are bichirs, but I didn't get any ID help, so I am making another thread. I will get some more pix this afternoon, but this is what I have for now. I was supposed to get congicus, polli, palmas and retropinnis. I'm pretty sure I got a polli and retro, but the congicus and palmas are more in question.

oh, I'm sorry, I didn't know you were saying that for sure or something...IDK, I was too excited to think clearly.

I was pretty sure it was a congi, but I had some doubts. I've never actually had one or even seen one in person before. I am not good about telling apart palmas from buetti either. Thanks


I have most of the described species now....just missing moke and "the big 3" as I call them....the expensive ones The most expensive so far was the 13" congicus @ $100.


This darn palmas keeps hitting the top of the water hard. You can kinda see some redness in one of the pix.
Since most or all of them are WC, I hit them with parasite meds and a couple other things. The last polli I got from them had internal parasites and died because I didn't quarantine and hit the parasites in time.

Nice pickups. $100 a fish is only the beginning of a building a bichir collection. Later on, you might find yourself spending $250+ a fish. The only way for me to tell a buetti and a palmas palmas is to own both. Since they're wild caught it's best to keep your tank covered completely. The palmas palmas will settle down after 2-3 weeks. It's always a good practice to treat them with parasite med whenever acquiring wild caught fish.

I still need to get a retropenis to add to my collection.
