oooo coconut crabs!!! i remember these when i was young! i used to live in Guam (i was born there) and we used to eat these guys....dont let the size fool you...they're pretty fast. My parents used to make a living off of fishing in Guam and when we were heading home at night you would see them crossing the street and my dad would load it into the back of the truck and we'd take it home, cook it, then eat it =). been 12 or so years since then so im not sure if they still have them there.

do they taste like regular crab meat.. or more coconut flavor to them..great story...

If i was getting the morning paper, and saw one of those... I would grab a shovel and beat the living crap outta it. I hate spiders and anything similar.

it actually has a bit of a coconut smell but i never really tasted the coconut (some people say it has a coconut after taste). As for comparing it with other crabs....Definitely better than any crab i've eaten so far from Rock Crabs to King Crabs to Dungeness Crabs. But then again...it also depends on how you cook it and what you eat it with =)

thats true...dipped in melted butter and garlic.. easy to pick the meat out of this type.. can you amagine an army of them... they must take a long time to grow to that size..

not quite sure how long it takes them to grow to a certain size...ive actually never seen one as big as a garbage can....biggest i've seen was probably the size of a VCR. I was told they hang around tatamona trees (i think thats how u spell it). HUGE trees that kinda look like mangrove trees but not in the water and they're white, but me and my cousins were always scared to go near those since they were supposedly haunted/cursed.
