The balloon isnt even big enough to hold enough helium to lift the kid.

He is hiding some where or worse, there is foul play involved and saying he was up in that balloon is a good way to cover up the "disposal."

really 6 yr old is probably only about 50-60lbs, but I have no idea how much helium you would need to left that. The only comparision I can give to myself is Macy's thankgiving balloons :) and the amount of people they use to secure them.

I think Mythbusters needed thousands of balloons to lift a two-year-old. The balloon cluster filled a warehouse. That thing couldn't lift a cat, if it's as small as it looks.

People are saying that the ballon is approximately 20'x5' pi(r^2)xh = 1570cuft

1 cubic foot of helium lifts about 28grams.

28x1570 = 43,970gr of lifting power which equals about 96lbs of lift.

One must realize this ballon is not a perfect cylinder so it has less volume, it also was obviously not totally inflated. The weight of an average 6 year old is what, 45-50lbs? Plus the weight of the device itself...there is no way it lifted that kid that high...maybe a couple hundred of feed and then he fell and then it shot up to the height it did...but lets hope thats not the case. :(

so whats the latest on the child...?

the kid is fine, he was scared his parents would be mad so he got out of the balloon and hid

thanks...thats good..

This story is full of holes. How did the balloon get loose with or without the kid in it? Since the balloon obviously couldn't have left the ground with him in it, why were people worried? What kind of parent is smart enough to use a weather balloon but too stupid to do the simple math of helium lift? I agree with the diagnosis of publicity stunt. It's the only part that makes sense so far.
