I bought a gold clown knife earlier today and it seems very malnourished. It is very thin, I can see the outline of his skeleton almost. I don't know that this is normal. He is only 4ish inches. It is in a tank with 2 JDs, 1 midevil, 1 gt, one small mayan, and 2 small jags. What is an easy food to give it that it will readily take and eat a lot of. I want to bring it back to health!

cut up an earthworm in small pieces, hopefully he will eat them before the other fish. I have a clown knife raised from 3" now to around 20", I feed him a whole earhworm and raw shrimp (peeled) daily. Is there anyway you could keep him in a tank by himself?

I suspect your knife won't get very much to eat in that tank with those inhabitants no matter what foods you try to feed him. Those cichlids are usually very alert and will snap up any food that is dropped in.

True. Target feed him using a hollow tube for best results. Cichlids can steal from that, too, though.

I've heard of the feeding tubes...It might be better to move the knife to another tank so it can de stress and eat and fatten up in peace.

I have a CK in with 2 Geos, 2 blood parrots and a silver Dat. Only way he eats is if I feed them an hour before lights out and drop some shrimp in an hour after lights out.

IME all those agressive cichlids are terrible tankmates for CK, who are very timid. Despite the fact that they are predators, they are very secretive and not agressive animals.

I couldn't get my clown knife baby to eat at first until I gave it neon tetras. They need live fish especially in this situation, despite the fact that many people will tell you they have pellet trained theirs, a malnourished baby shouldn't be tortured by not offering it live food in my honest opinion (as pellet training may involve starving the fish anyway). If fish are a problem feed it small worms and tadpoles. But my ck's favourite food has always been colorful small tetras, his very favourite being cardinals and neons.

Goldfish and minnows are poor nutrition which is why many people pellet train theirs. I would feel bad doing this as I like my knife so much, I feed him various tropical fish worms and krill. Guppys mollies and platys are not as favored as things like tetras danios gouramis - what they may eat in the wild
