Diets of Mbu

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Oh, well I'll be sure to feed as you said, I was just curious what the reasoning was behind feeding that amount every other day :]
I'd like to end up with as healthy of a puffer as possible.
Thankyou for the comments, and thankyou for the help :]

You read that link?

Yes, I am reading it right now, but on the link some people recommend 1/day 6x a week, but is every other day better? Also, I think you mention a puffer eating itself to death :/, is that true? And is the picture still up?

That puffer exploded! It's gut actually ripped in 2. I read one that about 5 years ago. 1x/day is for small/juvie puffers. I feed my 4" lurking puffers 1-2x/week, the same as my semi-active 12" fahaka puffer.

Oh wow that'd be terrible. So for a 4" mbu you recommend 1x every other day, and will it slow the growth rate at all? I really am not looking to slow the growth rate down. Haha sorry for asking so many questions, I am trying to be very careful with this fish.

As stated in that post, most of the food will come out undigested. The fish will have to expend a lot more energy trying to digest that food, than actually using it for growth. It will become a fat, lazy fish that is much less active. Just like a fat dog, if you feed it every time it begs, it will just beg more.

Oh ok, well actually that would definitely explain the odd looking feces haha, and why it doesnt seem as interested in exploring the tank as before he began eating so much.
I'll start feeding him every other day, thankyou for your help

Although I doubt any fish would explode unless overfed daily, I do believe that bigger fish do not need to eat nearly as often as smaller fish.

The idiot that actially posted that thread of the exploded puffer & the pic, actuallly thought it was funny.
