Diff between Eheim ecco and eheim classic canisters?

The motor housing is the same shape, but the motor is not the same.

Most people install the Eheim wrong. They don't place the return tube properly. I'd normally tell people to use an additional filter to agitate the surface just in case.

I am not sure about fishmaven's remark. Eheim's installation instructions are pretty self-explanatory. No additional surface agitation is needed if the spray bar is positioned above the water level.
