how do you tell between a redbellied p and a piraya the same size

Piraya have yellow belly.

Piraya can also have an orange belly. Also on a piraya look for "flames" of color that go up the body occasionaly pass the lateral line. Other then very young fish RBP will orange/red eyes and pirayas will have silver eyes.

Piraya are a hell of alot cooler and the standard red-belly. The bright orange color on some specimens are amazing.
