Remember that just because someone owns a fish store does not mean that they/their staff are completely knowledgeable when it comes to every type of fish.
Responsibility also falls on the consumer. An educated consumer is one who knows what it is their are buying regardless of what someone else may call it.
While I agree that its the customer that gets screwed if they dont know what they are buying in the end, it is MOST DEFINITELY the stores responsibility to know what they are selling and if they dont know what it is, should find out before selling it or even putting it out on the floor. Its not that hard to google or research what you are selling. I cant think of any other place I do business that mislabels anything ranging from cars, restaurants, clothing stores, shoes, surfboards, guitars, amps etc.
In the end, it only hurts the LFS to not know what they have and to mislabel...they usually lose business that way, at least from me. If your staff doesnt know, teach them or provide them with the tools to know. As a distribution wholesaler, I could NEVER mislabel my product and stay in business, especially in todays online market. There are too many options to go to people who know the stock they sell.
If mislabeling is such an issue from fish distributors, maybe its time to re-think who you (they) buy from. It could only make sales and reputation better from the customer to know exactly what youre getting.
This isnt a personal attack on you Andrew, just my 2 cents about LFS's in general.
