difference between blue and green tex fish

its not like i hate my fish or anything like that, I really like the personality of my carpintis(using the correct name i think ;) ),Actually it looks quite like a blue tex so i was curious whether its a blue or green tex. I breeding it with a flowerhorn and got the fries.
Fries are red belly and are 13mm in size i guess.still growing they are in a 30g tank.And another batch is ready today :).I was curious so i raised this question and now i am clear with what is a blue tex and what is a green tex.Mine is 7 inch i dont know its age i got it at the size 3 months back.

P.S He Looks like a gulping machine when he eats, got hugh mouth size with white small teeth:grinno:.
Looks like a cartoon when he scares me by flaring while guarding his fries.

Blue Texas=Herichthyes carpintis
Green Texas=Herichthyes cynaguttatus
The Texas cichlid is H. cynaguttatus to us, they live in Texas, H. carpintis lives in Mexico. In Asian they use Blue and green to differenciate from the two. In USA we prefer to us the latin name and avoid confusion like this. Ken

Carpintis and Escondido are not even Texas'. There is actually no such thing as a blue/green/red/super red texas, just used as a label to help identify, and confuse people.. The only species of a "Texas" cichlid is like ken said, the cynaguttatis.

These texas threads are getting rediculous. A simple search will pull up hundreds of them, with the same exact questions, answers, and pictures.
 
that's good so here's another one. More info more knowledge. I like Texas cichlids and Escondidos.
 
sick_lids post above makes it sound like carpintis and escondido are different species but escondido is just a regional variant of the carpintis and yeah this is why common names are way confusing because i have def seen carpintis refferred to as "green" and "blue" texas in different places while cyano was just referred to as texas or "true" texas AHHH:nilly:
 
Man...crazy post.

I used Green Texas to refer to my Texas Cyna and got smashed one time.

I try to use the following terms:
Her. Cyna---small spot
Her. Carpintis---large spot---blueish/green. Body shape is pointy and stomach is usually caved in. Why?? not sure...just what I noticed.
Her. Carpintis Escondido---large spot---blueish-green and wormings on face and thick.

i tried to remove all the caves from the tank
but
then he dont eat :(
