What is the difference between red bellied and "black" pacu, if there is one?

Yeah, black pacu are much more elongate fish.

Black Pacus are black there whole lives, redbellys are red when small and as they get bigger they get darker. Sometimes they stay red.

From what I have read, it seems they both get about 4 feet in the wild and over 2 feet in captivity. How much of a growth difference is it? I see more sites saying the red belly gets bigger than the black. I have 2 red-bellys and they are eating machines. All of my food instructions say to put only the amount of food they can consume with 2 minutes. That would be the whole bag and some!

That sucks if they really get bigger than blacks cause blacks get huge!

I've also found that the blacks tend to have a quieter disposition - not as nippy as the red bellies tend to be. I've heard that blacks live longer, and get bigger than the red bellies.
