Difference between Rtg,banjar ,green arowana

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
True ... from what i've seen here in MFK and maybe the same as your friend have an excellent banjar red, when it got 18-20" the redness started to washed out.
I cant deny that most banjar red is hybrid , i believe the tendency was already occurred back to arowanas trend back in the mid 90s. At the first maybe they were trying to boost super red stock but because super red is the hardest to bred, some farmers tried to cross super red with others like banjar red, rtg and maybe even green. Along the way, they realized the banjar red quality through crossed bred could be taken to another level then after next 2-3 generation, banjar red can be seen as it is nowadays.

Now a bit brain storming ...
i and my friends once debated that the root of all strains of asian arowanas was super red.
whats your thought abt this ?
Why do you think SR was the root of all strains? I would think Green Aro would be the root. All Asian Aro when small have that green horshoe marking, just not as bold as a Green.

not idea but my friend's ...
and i thought the same, the biggest population spreads is green so the most logical n possible was green aro.

but my friend got some funny n interesting views abt that.
he said super red got the most complete features that no other aros have.
  • horse shoe marking even indistinct compare to green or banjar
  • most varied color base, others may only have silver, blue, purple, green. (its a weak reason i think)
  • it always gets cross back
  • the hardest to bred n longest period to mature sexually
  • it can show snake pattern/batik marking also (most of colored aros could show snake pattern i think)

XB usually have varied color base as well. Different angles show different color. But his view is interesting. I've never really noticed horseshoe marking on Reds. Maybe I only look at the Red on their scales. :D I've seen XBs with snakeskin.

It's hard to explain all the details, but seeing a picture would be easier for me to say. When they are young(4"-5" in length), their scales look similar but have slight difference. The dorsal, caudal, anal fin on a Green Aro, is usually clear or pale yellow. The dorsal, caudal, anal finnages on a banjar red would be red (looks similar to a Super Red). RTG's caudal and anal is usually orange-red but the dorsal fin is grey or black. This is a very vague description but I hope it did help.
