difference between sump and mech filter?

why do they cost so much though. i saw one on ebay and it looked home biult but it was going for over $200! what is with that? no pump, so why the cost?

Because like everything else on the planet, if people are willing to pay those prices, they will sell for those prices.

My suggestion? Fight the system - educate yourself and build your own.

oh and that wet-dry your talking about is probably some ******* trying to make a quick buck by overpricing a peice of crap like that

i got my wet-dry ( for my 40 gal) for 125 bucks at marinedepot.com

and its up to tanks for 120 gallons

its a very nice peice of equipment

personally i dont like making my own wet-drys

id rather buy one, (quality is what you pay for )

agreed there if in need buy the first one it comes with pump requirements and instructions dont want to screw up and kill your fish on the first attemp learn from the tm made one and build your second one if needed..

Just do some research on how they work, they are very simple once you understand the basics. Ive made both my wet/dry filters and have never purchased an off the shelf one.

I agree.....I think you can make one for a LOT less money, and have a LOT better of a filter.
