After looking at alot of Jags from here and comparing my 2 jags together. I noticed that there are 2 different type's of dorsal fins on jags. 1 Is a straight fin with no curves and the other has some curves and round ends. Could this be that they are from different regions? Tank raised/WC?
I took these pictures from here some pics are mine and the very last picture is Damon0306's Jag just using as an example please discuss!

1. Curved dorsal fins.

interesting topic, i will be following this one, my 2 have the curved dorsal fins. possibly a morph from being tank raised rather than wild caught?

That's a really interesting observation...I've always focused on the differen't head shapes...narrow pointed vs bulldog rounded. I'm sure Mo has a hypothesis on this one

it could well either be morph or it could be blood line...

one id like to see post here is mo,

ive kept jags which have both variatians

^^ haha

Interesting topic I would like to know the answer as well.

So far nobody knows?? I really want to know the answer because everytime i look at a jag now i look at the dorsal fins first but I have no clue of y there's 2 dif types. Will someone help me with some answers? did some research and nothing came up. :(

could be regional variants...cichlids of the same species collected in different locations will show slight <and sometimes not so slight> differences in color, shape, finnage, size, etc.

that could also explain the difference in head shapes.

:)
