Differences between 2 Jags?? EXPERTS help!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I think there's one thing definitely we've learned so far from this thread....a jag would look pretty cool with a red trimmed dorsal fin :D lol

Fin variation exists in many species. For instance, there are different types of tails in different populations of wild convicts. Some (my Nicaraguans for instance) have a veil type tail whereas other populations have rounded tails.

Of course, some people think males have more pointed dorsals, but in the photos above it is clear that isn't always an indication of anything since there are males with rounded and pointed dorsals clearly shown. At the end of the day, it's a bloodline and regional issue.

all depends on which way they comb it in the morning.

:)

IMO, i think it's the way the fish are pictured, dorsal fins do move.

x2^^ only way you could prove theyre different is with a vid!

It all comes down to the regions of the fish. Being as it is the parachromis live in a RELATIVELY wide range of habitat, meaning slow moving or fast water and different visibilities etc etc. its also logical that they would have slight variations in there physical appearence. Aside from the different dorsal fins Jags have also been known to show at least 2 distinct marking patterns in females. 1 being a more tigerish look where their pattern consists of larger blocks of black and a 2nd where the blocks are smaller almost dot like and look more similiar to that of a jaguar or leapord.:nilly:OOO THE MADNESSS

P. managuense has the widest range of all the Parachromis species and has been translocated to even more. Just in Honduras I have seen 5-6 different color morphs, there is a lot of variation. The domestic fish is a combination of many different wild races, so there is going to be some differences. Ken
