Differences between L201 and L142

Thanks Copp81!
And T3, that looks like a gold nugget to me.
What's the difference between yours and the ones at the LFS?
And do you mind me asking what you feed him? :)

There is a good amount of algae growing on my rocks. To the point where I had to turn down how long my lights were on. I haven't fed him hikari algae wafers in over 2 months.

The difference is his spots are tiny, and more plentiful. I'm used to seeing large spots or tiny spots few and far between. I haven't seen one like him IRL before. Just have been curious.

Nice. How is the size difference between yours and the others? That's a good possibility.

L142 is a Baryancistrus, and and a "aufwuchsfresser". This means, it constently has to graze the thin bacteria-invertebrate-algae film on the rocks and woods of the river (of the tank). it needs permanent amount of food, basically zucchini, algae wafers, and a little part of meaty food (very little). It's mouth is big, round, and flat to the ground. Viewing it from under, you can see 4 main ranges of teeth, like on this picture (not mine)

L201 (as L102) is a Hypancistrus, purely carnivore (better would say bug's eater). The main difference is again on the mouth, but on body shape (thinner) and on eyes size too... if Baryancistrus has a mouth made to graze, an Hypancistrus has a mouth made to seek for bug's between rocks, with much more prehension capacity and longer barbels, as you can see on the following picture :

Both Bary and Hypancistrus are fishes that need to be maintain in little colony with 1-2 males and several females... it's very important for their social behaviour, especially if you intend to breed them... you must have a alpha male, to set up the Breeding Mood on the mature females...

Plenty of good informations are available on Planet Catfish...
