So i have seen standard jack dempseys, electric blue jack dempseys, there is a variation thats gold and red (kinda cool but im assuming its way expensive). I was watching a video of a tank with electric blue jd's and blue gene jd's. What is a blue gene jd? Is it the same as a standard or is it the offspring of an electric blue and a standard? if it is a combo of the two, Will there be any differences in color from the normal to the blue gene? thanks!

I believe an electric blue jack dempsey is a result of selective breeding. Additionally, there are differences between a normal one, and electric blue. The electric blue has such a brilliant, and electric blue color to it, while the normal one, looks like a normal jack dempsey.

I thought it was reverse, you need to breed blue gene JD's to get the electric blue.

The BGJD is a JD that is heterozygous for the EB gene, and hence looks exactly like a normal JD, though breeding it with an EBJD or another BGJD can produce EBJDs (as you can prolly figure out).

@Aquaman_95 - he was asking about BGJDs, not EBJDs.

Okay that's what I thought. I heard that when breeding the male should be ebjd and the female should be normal as the ebjd's are more passive..

It seems easier to pick out male ebjd from female based on growth rate (not exact science at all), since the normal visual cues are not apparant in ebjd like in normal or bgjd.

There also gold jack dempseys and platinum jack dempseys. If you want to see pics of sexy platinums go into my threads. They are a combination of the gold and ebjd, they are much stronger fish
