Different rhoms and different T sizes

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
they will all be slightly different. KingofKings had an absolutely amazing BLACK rhom. it was jet black...meanest looking rhom i have ever seen.

"diamond" rhoms get the glittery scales that really sparkle. within diamonds i think there are blacks, golds, and blues. but there is still debate about that.

then there are xingu rhoms which look pretty badass, then there's numerous other different varients from different areas.

i personally like the look of the diamond rhoms, which is why i just got that little 3" blue diamond rhom. but everyone likes a little something different.

and i know that if i got 1. i would want a school of cardinal tetrasor sriped danios. when could i add these? and can rbps be kept with a rhom.sry i have never kept a rhom so excuse me if i ask stupid Qs

well if you got a more hardy tetra then i would put the tetras in to cycle the tank, then just add the rhom once the tank is nice and cycled.

i dont keep any dither fish with my rhom. he eats prepared food now and i dont want to risk him getting a taste for live food and not going back!lol

i like the blacks and vinnies

vinny's are just a variant of rhombeus from venenzula, a 75 is bare minimum, for most types under 14". they do reach 18" in size but rarely in captivity, so a 125 would be best, can get to 30" in wild.< i know because i was considering ordering one from a vendor in peru. with vinny's and diamonds, they rarely get over 14". imo they look cool, but most are wimps and are a waste of the big money you'd have to spend on the bigger ones. some are finger chasers but not all.

If you wanted them to live...never. You might get lucky but odds aren't too great. RBP's and rhoms shouldn't be in the same tank together, as serrasalmus sp. like the rhom are generally best kept solo. IMO it would be better to spend a bit more and get the biggest rhom possible, provided you have the tank space readily available to you. They grow realllllly slowly

ty guys. i want a aggressive rhom but something that will still tolerate small tetras. i think i will go for exodons. so which ones are rhoms that are aggressive? and if i do decide to only get a 75g will they be alright in there, ty

A rhom is a rhom, it would kinda be like asking if a gold jag is meaner than a reg jag. Just variations in appearance...it's really up to the individual fish. A smaller rhom would do well in a 75 for quite awhile.

exodons arent a great idea to have with a rhom, or any piranha. they are scale eaters, and will periodically rip scales off of your piranha, causing stress and possible death. not worth the risk.

stick to redeye tetras or something...maybe rummy nose if the tank is established enough.
