In My House
I'm still trying to get the hang of cichla sp.

So there's a sp. And within that sp. They're different in terms of pattern/colors by the different rivers/lakes etc?

I'm mainly interested in kelberi as that's what I have now. So I'm trying to figure them out. So my hommy asked if mine were WC or Bahia, I read on these forums of 24k, I read on vendor sites Bahia golden spider, f1, etc etc. I mean Wtf? How much diff types r there?

Please help lol. Because to my understanding, there's a sp. Like orino, and they're different if they're from a diff river/lake/drainage like brokopondo, Rio meta, Orinoco etc etc. Am I right?

I recently took a huge intrest in cichla because they're so beautiful and imo loyal, always showing themselves and having a great appetite. I just really want to learn more.

Kelberi are kelberi....
The rest is collection point.
The majority of bahia's are f1's that were from that region.
24k is a term given to a kelberi that was collected from a specific region...these are unbelievebly gold.

Just like all other cichla species each fish will look different. But kelberi collected from diff regions will have slight differences in base color and/or spangling.

Ya that's what I thought. Orino is orino but they're are a little diff if they're collected from a diff area. Ocell are ocell but they're diff if collected from a diff area and so on so forth....right?

I guess my question is. What is Bahia? A place that breeds them?

The LFS I got my kels from said that he got them from a vendor that breeds them in Florida called seagrass? He has a heavy accent so Its hard to understand him but I'm pretty sure he said "seagrass"

Ok I read that Bahia is a state in Brazil. So when u guys say wc or Bahia, that means that Bahia is basically CB in Bahia???

There was a pair outta Taiwan i believe that has/had the 1st breeding pair of bahias. The bahias are from that region. Therefore most of the f1 kelberi labeled are just kelberi that are from that region that have been captive bred.
