I am very unfamiliar with wolf fish but am interested. From what I think I've read, the different species tend to act differently.
I know there is the hoplias species but I couldn't tell you any of the others.
Aren't some species more active than others?
Which species are a little more active and which like to hide more?
If you could use both common and scientific names that would be helpful, I don't believe we have a profile page for wolf fish here.
Thanks!

From what I know, theres the Hoplias Aimara (black wolf)
Hoplias Malabaricus(common wolf)
Hoplias Curupira (not sure)
And Erythrinus Erythrinus(red wolf)
And a subspecies from Peru

the malas act like logs.

The curupiras and aimara are a bit more active. The curpiras are the most active IMO.

I'm just getting into these awesome fish also, I've done some research and found the smallest species ery ery ( red wolf) that's the one I'm most interested in.

jelly made his own website about wolf fish care. Do some research on google. There are some nice info there.

Aren't red wolves (ery ery) pretty inactive?

Actually, they are the MOST active of all wolf fish. They usually like to swim around, unlike the wolves of the Hoplias family. i have one and it always swims at the top of my tank.

I agree the reds are very active once the comfortable mine was always swimming back and forth I have 2 malas now one is very active but they are just juveniles
