Okay, so last night, I did a 50% water change. I checked the ammonia levels and naturally it had dropped a pretty significant amount (to about .50 PPM). This morning I tested it again after waking up, and the ammonia level was down around .25 PPM. So things are moving in the right direction. I'm going to continue checking on things, and I may even get so bold as to do daily 50% water changes. I know this is not really recommended, but neither is having elevated ammonia levels, so I'm just going to hope that all goes well. My tap water is slightly hard, and pH measures about 7.8 (lower than I would like for my Africans, but still alkaline).
