Keep in my that I am a newbie and don't know much yet, but what are the most difficult obstacles that a person faces when breeding, generally speaking?

well first you have to find the right guy....

i didnt even catch that at first. . that elena is a tricky one.

Seriously, for breeding fish it depends on the species. In general, clean water and suitalble tank, well conditioned healthy fish. Some need breeding "triggers", some are seasonal, some like guppies will try to breed in the bag on the way home.

Too many variables to mention in one post but the first difficulty in breeding that comes to my mind (regarding small characins) is the task of finding the nearly microscopic free swimming fry before they become fish food, not to mention the task of knowing whether or not the characins in question scattered eggs in the first place. There are many elusive little breeders out there!

Gotta agree that cichlids are fun to breed, especially mouthbreeders like tilapia sp. It's so kool & weird to see a bunch of little eyeballs peering out of the males mouth.
