Digikits moonlight any good?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I don't have them but I have considered getting them. They look very nice and relaxing at night. Can the fish see this light? I've read several different things, some say that fish can detect the blue light and others say that they can't. It would be nice to be able to see the night activities of my fish without disturbing them.

I am running blue leds, not the digikits, but the over all effect is tits.

There are lots of different led's, just going to Radio Shack and buying some blue led's won't necessarily give you good results. You would need high intensity ld's with (IMO) a wide angle diffused light. If they're low intensity or even high intensit but with narrow beam then the result would be 'tits'.

I have the R2's on all the time and the regular flourescent on a timer, when the flourescent goes out it leaves just the blue R2's on. I don't know whether it's that the fish can't see blue light or just that they aren't as bothered by it, but as soon as the flourescent goes off (literally within 1 second) the whole tank changes - Neons come to the front, Pictus and Rainbow Shark emerge from their holes, Angel starts browsing the gravel, Boesemani Rainbowfish move into the center.

Some nights I'll turn out all the room lights and the TV before the flourescent goes out, that way I get the full effect when the tank changes to 'Moonlight'.

Touche, I am running 18' of SMD LEDs light strips for the daytime and about 10 feet of the blue SMD LEDs. It was a DIY project and cost me about 4 bucks (maybe?) everyone that sees it loves it. Though, I am about to convert the whole thing over to led light bars with aluminum housings and a host of color options with remote.

LOL, sorry wasn't meaning you didn't know what you were doing, sounds like you have a pretty good idea!
I've been looking at the M16 LED lights (GU5.3 base), there seem to be quite a few manuf. who make colour changing versions that come with the remote. Although right now I think I'm going to get a few of the 'license plate' blue led's and see what I can rig up (at under $3 for a pair with 6 led's in each it's worth trying).
