Hey guys, can you point me in the right direction into which Digital SLR I should buy. Its going to be NIKON but Id like to hear some refference on which models or series I should get. I know little about them, and Id like some advise and tips on what to look for. Also lens, I need to know what to equip it with. Thanks, John

I need the SLR to take the best photos of our fish for all of you to see!

unless photography will be a serious hobby, the basic D3000 with the 18-55mm kit lens and a SB-600 speedlight will give you all the results you need :)

and if you dont want to mess with an overhead flash and just want to take quick pics, then the Nikon AF-S 50mm f/1.4 will help with those low-light tanks

I carry a Nikon D5000, which works superbly for my budget, but I suggest you get the best that you can afford. There are many websites that you can go to that will allow you to do a side-by-side comparison of various models. You can compare all Nikons, from the D3000 up to their top of the line model. I prefer to use cnet.com

d3000 is a great model to start off with.

john, for best everything in the nikon line, get a D3S. If i was a nikon shooter i would get that. But my canon stuff serves me well for now. back to the topic.

You can't go wrong with the d3s. yah its expensive but you get your moneys worth...
Ill email you later about a whole nice setup for the least amount of money your going to spend..

a $5,200 camera for a first-time DSLR? unless you enjoy throwing your money away, this is complete overkill for his needs.

Agreed! This makes no sense . . . That's like buying a Porshe for a teenager as a first car.
