It's always fun to spend someone else's money, but this is silly. A $5000 rig isn't going to fix the #1 issue with learning how to take fish pics- glare and reflections from glass and water surface. These problems are fixed with technique, not money- although a polarized filter does help for about $20.
This pic was taken with my D60, and about as BAD of a fish lens possible...the Nikkor 18-105 f3.5-5.6...this lens is super slow, terrible in low light...just have to make sure there is lighting above the tank, and learn to use camera angle to not catch the reflection or glare. I chose this pic because it shows the reflection from the lights...same pic taken from a different angle eliminated the reflection...and one more shoplight fixture would have fixed the slight graininess. I left this at full res for all to see. I don't think the clarity is really all that bad for such a slow lens...
I can't wait to upgrade to the $125 50mm f1.8...the 50mmf1.4 isn't much better...many people say the f1.8 takes better pics anyhow, and it's 1/3 the price.
Zoom for fish pics? Low f# lens goes from $125 to $800+ someone explain why we need to zoom for fish pics? I don't think any of us are printing ultra high res posters. 10.2mp=3872x2592...anyone here running 3872x2592 screen res? Probably not...so at that res, I can crop out the best of the pic and still size it down to my screen res, and even 5mp prints out a nice 8x10...
Just my opinion as a tightwad... But I guess I can say I own 2 Leos now with the money I didn't spend on a camera... I like Leos better than pics of Leos.
