Really ,find a good glass polish.It will remove 95% of the scratches.I have used it with great success!!!!

Hmm, I kind of like your idea about combining both tanks though. I'd say try polishing first, and if still no good you could always buy back and combine the two. He'll have a new tank, and you'll have a monster tank with the scratched panel in the back I assume!

I'd try to make it right, but here's my take. He still took the tank after the scratches were noticed. I'd be willing to trade the original tanks back and maybe pay him for the lumber stand he built, but I'd want the stand, too.

My favorite idea so far is that he order a pane of starphire glass from glasscages for $150 and I install it on the tank for him. Minimal work for me, and he gets a super clear front window out of it. Much cheaper than trying to replace the tank and whatnot.
I think you need to remember that you did not know the tank was scratched when you made the deal so it is not like you were being deceptive. I would either trade back or install the new glass for him on the 110 but going beyond that is getting taken advantge of.
