Dimidiochromis compressiceps

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Can't be of much help having not owned an eye biter. They are more peaceful than their name implies.

The only advise I can give about new fish though is to have an idear before hand as to the dietary needs and what tankmates they play nice with. It can come as a surprise when the cute little fish turns out to be 11 - 12 inches and you have it inna 55 gallon tank.

I currently have him in a 46 gallon with about 14 other mixed africans. I have a 90 gallon I will be moving them all to in about two weeks. The fish store owner said they get 6-7 inches. Then I find out online that its 10-11 inches, good thing I'm moving them soon! Thanks for the reply!

not an aggressive species at all IME, can get very timid when housed with more robust species

I "accidentally" have a firemouth (south american?) with my Africans. I think I might take him back because he is already being aggressive with my OB peacock and the new Dimidiochromis compressiceps...the fire mouth is only 1.5" so I'm assuming that it will get worse...

I have 6 Malawi Eyebiter... mixed with Frontosas, Blue Dolphins and Venustus... one of my Eyebiter is the king of the 200 gallon tank... he is about 7 inches... nice blue color with orange fins... he has a spot in the tank to himself and chases everyone away, including the larger Frontosas...
