Dimidiochromis compressiceps

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
you will not regret getting this fish they are impressive look real mean but are not mean.

I treat mine every bit to some minnows, most of the time it is high quality flake.

I just picked up 16 2 inch fry at a fish auction as I have always wanted to do a tank full of them.

Thanks! My wife is starting to learn how much it's a way of life! I've moved up tank sizes twice now..she thinks I'm nuts!!! I just can't get enough!!!! I would like to see your tank!!!

I "accidentally" have a firemouth (south american?) with my Africans. I think I might take him back because he is already being aggressive with my OB peacock and the new Dimidiochromis compressiceps...the fire mouth is only 1.5" so I'm assuming that it will get worse...

personally, I don't find firemouths to be all that imcompatible with the fish you listed at all. Eventually can be eaten by larger haps depending on its growth

in captivity it is not unreasonable for them to grow about a foot long...with the space they need anyways...

feeding habits...well, if you really want to see something cool, you should give them their own tank which should be long and shallow, will plants like jungle val, and some reed type plant, like even bamboo or fake/dead bamboo reeds...they will hide in the reeds and act like a plant since they are so laterally compressed...hence compressiceps...and you could feed them live and its a joy to watch them stalk and strike.

but you can feed them just about anything else, even veggie pellets, i feed mine hikari cichlid staple, gold, and frozed brine shrimp and blood worms...and every now and then they get a live treat from my disease free!!! feeders.

they are one of the only fish who will eat live food tail first, which is cool to see!
i have a pair and they have been one of the most gorgeous and fun fish to have, you will grow fond of it soon.

hope that helps

here's my boy, and his girl...

he has a deformed jaw, but that gives him his name.... tude.

the first pic's color is...modified...but the others aren't, so you can still see his nice colors

well, if you want the best bang for your buck, i suggest setting up a feeder tank, and feeding them guppies.

go buy a trio 1m 2f , and within a few months, you will have so many guppies you won't know what to do with them all.

you could also do the same thing with convicts, they breed like rabbits.
or just some rosies/minnows, but i still suggest setting up a feeder tank to "take care" of the feeders, so you know if they are sick or have parasites or anything like that, jsut to keep your prized fish safe.
