can anyone share their experiences with D. Compressiceps. I've got 5 juvis right now that are currently about 2.5-3 inches long. They are much less aggressive then i thought they'd be and pretty much ignore they're tankmates at the moment.

hahah one of the collest looking fish out there. Males are beautiful. I added a big ol male to my peacock tank back in the day. He never bothered any fish, he just kept to himself. Than i thought i would fix something that wasnt broken. I bought him a female of about the same size. She was dead by morning, he killed her overnight. That bothered me so i gave him to a buddy that had a 240 peacock/hap tank with a much larger female and a equal sized male. It had killed the female and was working the male until my friend took him out and put him in a bucket. He was also killing other fish now. He is prolly still around somewhere in my city killing fish. He is just too pretty and ppl dont want to listen. I always warned that it is a bad seed.

The bigger they get, the meaner they get usually. You should also keep tank decorations to a minimum, because they prefer open areas to swim. Once bigger they will prey on smaller africans such as aulonocara and pseudotropheus species

got one about a week ago around 3". has been awesome to this point; active but pays seemingly no attention to tankmates. eats like crazy as well i might add. any may to visually sex them as juvies? lfs had a half -dozen or so and they all looked pretty much identical. also, is there anyone who could share some experience as to their growth?

loving this fish so far!

did you get yours from a big als in oakville harty?

And i have some cover because my smallest has been chased a little. no damage but stressed. There is plenty of space though and i believe they appreciate vals.

where i got mine is a small store, but it is a branch. they had 8 and i bought 6, thought the smallest one i bought died the first night. the resrt are doing well and have doubled in size since i got them in late november-early december.

they are currently the only africans i have but i might get some moori or other haps as tankmates. I have not found much in the way of testimonies or other experiences online, hence this thread

that's pretty good growth. i'm hoping mine will begin showing some growth in the next few weeks.

i have it in a 75 with 9 yellow labs(3 adult 6 sub adult), 1 sub adult "snow white", and other randoms(not cichlids). the comp tends to hang out more toward the surface, thus not really interacting with the mbuna at all other than feeding time.

just a little update. picked up two more of these things early this week, giving myself a trio. all are doing very well. the original is more of a loner, while the newer ones tend to chill out together. i have also noticed some colour coming in on the original, namely red developing on his dorsal which is absent in the others. i have also noticed his lateral stripe seems to be fading, and the silver on his flanks is darkening to more of a shimmering olive hue. if the light hits him right, i can even see almost a cobalt blue sheen to his head. (can you tell i hope this one is a male?!?! hahaha)
