anyone got any ideas on how to dim the lights? My lights on my 55 are blindingly bright and are scaring my fish I think. Plus I want the setting to be more darker try to imitate wilderness. Any ideas on how to dim the light?

Maybe you can get some wax paper and tape it to the light? would that be too dim?

If they are old t8's with wire balasts splicing a dimmer switch in should work...it works the other way anyway, I made mine LOADS brighter by amping them up lol!

So you must have a four foot long light, correct? Down grade it to a 2 foot light, my mate has done it, it owns, you get shadow on the sides and corners of the tank.

Dont clean the glass lids lol
The shorter light idea is the best,or you can put a pice of smoke or opaque plexi under the light

hmm Floating plants would work if my cichlids didnt tear apart every kind of things possible hehe

it is a 4 foot long light

I was thinking about eggcrate but I dont think it would make a dimming effect.. more like a eggcrate shadow instead

Ill try the wax paper... sounds like a good idea

I put window tint on top of the glass. I had two flourescents on top of my 55.

I used 20% and it worked good. It's readily available at any car parts store, costs about $10 and goes on easily.
