Picking up one of thies guys for my 180 tank. Im hoping that they will reduce the amount of wasted food in my tank. Will the swim up to surface to get food ? Or will they suck up all the chewed up food my cichlids spit out ? Either wayt they are super cool looking stoked to have one.

Bichirs eat off the bottom. A few might eat off the top but not likely. They are not snails, they are not used to reduce wasted food. Feed them at night with the lights off. Massivore/Carnivore pellets, silversides, krill, catfish fillets, tilapia fillets, ghost shrimp, earthworms, beef heart. Smaller ones will eat bloodworms and mysis shrimp.

If you only feed floating pellets they do learn they hv to go up for food but no they don't suck up the food cichlids spit out. You might want a Nile for that.

Lmfao the common name is not Dinosaur Eel. The Dinosaur Part mostly came from The Pet stores such as Petsmart. Bichirs are the common name

hey thats what everyone around here calls them. Even the specialty fish stores. Alot of diffrent birchir is there not ? So just just saying birchir kinda leaves it open ?

Either way excited to get this guy soon hes sweet looking.

The cichlid food i purchased said floating and sinking.... I have yet to see one sink.... not impressed wont be buying another bag of it. Im going to have to pick up theis sinking preditor pellets.
