Dinosaur Bichir companions

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
also how long will i have until i need to be worried? since his mouth is only maybe 1 cm wide

many people here know much more than me about them, i just own them. There is a chance your bichir will grow big, and not touch any of them. But, if anything is small enough to fit in its mouth, it will likely end up in its mouth. The above fish, full grown, (other than the pangassius) could potentially live together, but bichirs grow fast

I should also mention, that depending on the temperament of the jack dempseys, they could brutalize the firemouth. large cichlids and small tanks don't mix. also, the reverse could happen.

good chance chinese algea eaters will attempt to kill the other fish.

right, the Pangassius is just in there because he helps get food from falling to the ground, when he is bigger im going to put him up for adoption somewhere and see if anyone might want him, the 2 EBJD's grew about 1/8th of an inch in a month, so theyre kinda growing but your right this guy might grow faster, i wont introduce feeder fish to him while he is in that tank, (were going to be moving soon and when i can get a good set up hes going to probably be seperated in a 30 gallon temporarily until i can get a bigger aquarium, but for the next few months he will be sharing my 55 with the others

feeder fish are unhealthy and carry parasites; don't use them unless you raise them yourself and gutload them. pellet train all your fish with a healthy pellet food like new life spectrum. with a healthy diet and clean water, EBJD can grow fast; for the first few months, mine grew an inch a month (7 month old fish, currently 5.5")

Large pangassius are extremely difficult to rehome. Its best to get rid of it sooner than later, while its still cute.

haha im moving to Denver Colorado and if anything i can give it to a fishery there they might like it, or a pet store i trust for an adoption,

the fish i have currently have this for a diet

Freeze Dried Bloodworms
Freeze Dried Mysis Shrimp
Sundried baby shrimp (occasionally)
Omega One Cichlid Flakes
Omega One Super Color Flakes
and Top Fin Cichlid Pellets

Occasionally ill drop in some Ghost Shrimp and they seem to like those quite a bit and sometimes i drop in some algae wafers

i just noticed the other part of your message, the Firemouth is actually the dominant in there, but they dont fight with each other, no nipped fins or anything theyre pretty laid back, the chinese algae eaters so far dont mess with the others either

Alright. Trust me when I say this:

Large Pangassius are unwanted. Period. There are a small handful of people in the hobby who can actually keep (and want) a large pangassius, and those people already have them. A fishery would question your intelligence if you brought a large tropical catfish to them, and likely ask, "What am I supposed to do with this? Our water is cold!" You'd be lucky to find a petstore that would take one in period. Petstores have been known to have to GIVE these guys away, simply because they can't get rid of them. And even when free they will sit there for months at a time.
