Hey, new to the forums and usually stick to the invertebrates section of it lol

so im trying to decide between a dinosaur bichir (Polypterus senegalus) or a peacock eel to add to my tank, its a 55 gallon tank with sand substrate. Been set up for several months so everything is balanced. Both the sand and background are black and the decor is neon-ish in color.

I want the more active and interesting of the two but it also needs to be able to survive with my crawfish who likes to hunt at night:FIREdevil

so, which do you think would be better for me? Money is kinda tight so i can only get one for now.

i moved this from the ancient fish section for a more even opinion :D

I'd get a Senegal Bichir (dinosaur bichir). My GF had a peacock eel, she said it was always under the substrate.

X3, Sens are one of the most active Bichirs and when I see Eels at Lfs, they are always hiding (Plus Bichirs look cooler ;))

My bichir loves to swim around like a doofus. He's got the most personality of any fish i've owned. I got hime very small (2"), and he's held his own the one time I saw my tire track eel go after him.

You could get a different bichir for my color. I have black eco complete and dark blue background on my tank, and I love the color of my bichir.

What they said^^^^^

Agreed with the others, senegalus are very active, the spiny eels are hiders especially if they have sand to bury themselves in.

Watch out re: the crayfish though, if it's big it could eat your bichir, and if it's very small the bichir could try to eat it.

SENS!!!!!
