Bare is fine and so is sand... but gravel isn't as good.

i agree mainly cause bichirs have poor eyesight , and tend to swallow the gravel...

get him a hamster tube! i saw one a petsmart in fullerton with hamster tubes. can any1 give me advice on starting a bichir tank for home. price isnt an issue.

I was going to put my endli and ornate bichirs in my 270 with gravel as a substrate. Is it going to be a concern? Will I have to replace all of my gravel or is it kind of rare for bichirs to swallow gravel?

I had my senegal eat 2 pieces of gravel months ago still alive and acting normal. My substrate is sand with a few black gravel paths. I wouldn't recommend gravel.
