I was enjoying a break in the weather yesterday in the park near where I work. The pond there has loads of Tilapia breeding there and we often net some fry for feeders. a lot of people dump unwanted fish into the pond and oscars, red devils, gourami, goldfish ect. are the norm. Well I was scooping some juvies for a 20 gallon I have to keep it cycled and I saw a flash of red so I snagged it. turned out to be a young fh in very bad shape. a couple bad abrasions on the side and messed up pectoral fins. but I figured what the heck, it has nice color even for being beat and free is my favorite price, so I took it home. I gave it an Epsom salts bath and gradually brought the temp up to 30*c (the pond was about 20*c) to help it heal up. This morning it ate some pellets soaked in garlic juice and this afternoon it ate very well. its active and swims well. I'm not expecting a miracle show fish or anything but I am taken with the colors on this one besides I'm sure it would have died where it was. here are some phone pics from this morning it is about 3"SL. I'll update if it lives.

Good save!

Poor guy...

Big devils in that pond? And can you guys fish whatever you like, in there?

Thanks, Miguel!
It seems to be perking up quite a bit so fingers crossed.
There are some bigger devils in there but most die off over the winter when water temps can drop to about 15*c. Yes we are allowed to net anything from this park but line fishing is prohibited so the big guys are pretty hard to get. the easiest way to get some is wait for the water temp to drop and on a sunny day you can luck out and catch some in the shallows. my friend got a nice 10" lemon oscar in this way. I would love to be lucky enough to score a devil/midas someday.

Could you post a pic of the pond?
