Dis-Assemble 800 Gallon Tank and put it back together !

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Yep. I used guitar string on my 540.

Wow! what a cool tank. Why do you have to take it apart??? Does it leak?

Yep, use cheese wire or piano/guitar strings for between the panes. You can get special stuff to clean and prep the glass when it is time to reassemble. Keep us posted.
Cheers,
Ken.

Went to see it in person on the weekend... and bought it of course

Its definitely a cool tank. It needs to be disassembled due to its size (not being able to fit it through doorways as it is currently in a basement) not to mention the weight of the thing.

Somebody was telling me about a substance you can get to apply to the silicone to dissolve/breakdown the adhesion, has anyone heard or used this before ? The person who told me about it wasnt sure of the name of the substance.

Now I'm starting to think about fish, salt or fresh, I've never done a saltwater set up before, so I'm kind of leaning towards fresh water because I have heard it can be tough to maintain salt levels.

open to ideas though,

maintaining salt levels is no big deal, its just topping up with freshwater when water levels drop a bit.
the filtration system is the killer when you start out, live rock, skimmers and such.
you'd soon pick it up though, the size of it would work in your favour too as the bigger salt tanks are easier to keep stable.
i ran a 20 gallon with info gathered from these forums as a total salt newbie..
good luck either way, the tank looks great
keep us posted

Hey Audit, if you need a hand taking it apart and loading it up here in Barrie, post up a note here and if I'm available I'd be more than willing to give a hand. I know how it's sometimes hard to get some guys to go on a road trip, especialy when it ends with heavy lifting. LOL. I was really tempted to call this guy a go have a look at it, but knew I wouldn't buy it and didn't want to waste the sellers time.
Al.
