I brought a new loach from my lfs he looked okay swimming round in their tank i watched him for a while seemed nice and healthy so i decided to purchase him he was on his own and i have three so thought hed fit in nicely. The lady bagged him and i took him straight home put bag in tank as normal to settle adjust all that, he started behaving oddly lying on his side ( i know they do do that sometimes) but then flipping out like zooming like crazy round in bag, so i let him out of bag after about 10mins then he went absoultly crazy seemed like freakn out so i watched him again for about an hour then he slowly to settle and hid under a rock i checked on him through out the day seemed okay, woke this morning to feed them and hes gone ive searched high and low under rocks moved some stones around no were to be seen, I have 3 tinfoil barbs, 1 fire eel, 1 pleco and my other 3 cls I have no idea what happened ive never seen a cl do this before ive had my other loachs for about a year, anyone think he was so scared outa his wits died then got eatin???

Depends on the size, but if it was small my money is on Fire Eel food.

Sometimes I am amazed at the tight spaces that my loaches can get wedged in. I thought that I lost 4 clown loaches in an almost bare bottom tank and all of sudden they showed up the next day. I think they were buried between a small flat rock and the sand.

I hope ya find him, but I agree with ewurm in that the most likely one to have eaten him is the fire eel. Did you check around the tank? If he was really flipping out, he might have jumped

when I first got mine I came home from work in the early evening and couldn't find a single 1 out of 8. I moved the rocks and gravel around and found 5 right away but no sign of the rest. the next morning though all 8 were swimming around playfully

my point being that he might just be hiding really well. give him some time before you start trying to solve a murder case

for sure! the little guy may still turn up

Loaches are quite notorious for their habit at squeezing in smallest gaps.;)

I have been amazed at the spaces that loaches can hide in. It's possible that it is alive.

I really hope he is still there somewere really never seen a loach freak like that ill keep an eye on tank for few days and cross fingers, just feel bad cause i thought hed be happy to have other tank mates but yes second guess would be the fire eel ate him he was slightly smaller than my other loachs..... yup ive got heaps off large plastic tunnels, but no sign so far...
