they could have shown and talked about a lot more species then they did in amazon abyss

They couldn't find half of them so I think that's why. I have the same grip about "hooked: monster fish" on ntgeo though no monster of gigas or other large fish left out. But what can you do..

Watched it the other night, but it is more about that 300 ft deep trench rather than the entire Amazon, but it's still good.

I'm pretty sure they could only show what they filmed.;)

Back in my highschool days, they showed this film in world geography about arapaima gigas in amazon. they even showed the natives fishing for some and they pull in this huge giga as big as their boats. Needless to say, that is why i got hooked into arowanas.

yeah, i've seen that a couple times. I love that HD spot with the Aro jumping! My wife rolls her eyes cuz everytime that spot comes on, I go "oh oh, is this the one with the aro" and my eyes are glued til they show it, and I go "AHhh YES!!!".

BTW, the show that that clip is from is (i think) Equator: “Rivers of the Sun" I've been waiting for it to air again, but haven't seen it. It's got a TON of arowana footage! In HD!

There is a show with jumping arowanas called "Secrets of the Golden River", don't know if that's the one you're talking about.
Amazon Abyss isen't on often, your best bet on seeing that would be to check out the show listings on discovery.com
I saw someone mention the rift lakes as well. There is a Nat Geo show called "Jewels of the Rift", excellent show on Tang. cichlids. Not on often, check the listings on nationalgeographic.com

I actually just googled it and found it on DVD..

I remember a really cool PBS show a couple of years ago about the fish in the Tankiyaka lake in Africa hosted by the actor that played Benjamin Cisco on Star Trek DS9; was really cool. Anyone know how to order it?

That might be the same one I was talking about, Jewel's of the Rift originally aired on PBS.
